MY SCHOOL YEAR

Despite the last two months of
distance learning, a lot happened
during this school year, too. This
year I started with a new group, my
Awesome 19A filled with eager and
energetic youngsters who have made
their ways directly into my heart. We
have had a rollercoaster of a year; a
lot of new people, new challenges,
new events. But together we have
managed to overcome all obstacles
and even have a lot of fun. We have
been to the movies, in November we
went to see Charles Dickens’ classic
“A Christmas Carol” at Savoy, in
January we had a chance to taste
Hiyori’s delicious and expensive
Matcha tea in class and in February
we went to see “Happy”, a theatre
show on the difficulties of achieving
happiness that often is closer
to us than we can imagine. We have
laughed, cried, shouted out loud and
most importantly, survived this grueling
first year of HEKLU being now
ready to move on, once again!
Hopefully next year will be at least
as good as this one and we can be
back to school and continue with
our normal everyday humdrum and
interesting field trips, maybe even
go abroad! Still, if that is not the
case, we have plenty of cool events
here in our own city too - despite
distance or not distance learning.
In autumn, we had our traditional
language week with plenty of riveting
guests and Morris dance. Some
groups went to see Apollo 11 (to pay
homage to the first mission to the
Moon 50 years ago) and received
visitors from Réunion (an overseas
department of the French Republic
near Madagascar). Before the
Christmas holidays, our Italian students
even had the special chance of
enjoying the music of Conservatorio
di Monopoli Nino Rota (famous for
his film scores, for instance for The
Godfather Part II, 1974) in Arabia.
But no school year is fun without
some gaming. Thus in February, we
played Seppo running around the
city with our Danish guests, and we
did the same with the students of
our Guide Course in April showing
this Corona virus that WE CAN–
against all odds!
So, now I am just eagerly waiting for
our next year’s adventures wishing
you all a very nice and sunny summer!
Stay safe and thank you for
being so amazing! Grazie! Arigato!
